Jagan launches YSR Bima insurance cover scheme
Vijayawada: Chief Minister, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Wednesday launched the YSR Bima scheme, which would benefit 1.41 crore families by providing insurance cover.
Speaking at the launch, Jagan said that the state government will be paying Rs 510 crore every year as a premium, despite the central government having withdrawn from the scheme. Terming the loss of the primary bread earner as the worst nightmare for any family, Jagan said that the state government will stand by such families in the hard times by providing financial assistance through insurance cover.
Assuring them that the claim amount will be directly credited into their bank accounts within 15 days of the claim being made, Jagan also announced immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 to families through village and ward secretariats.
All families with white ration cards are eligible for this scheme and village/ward volunteers will visit the families and enrol the names of the primary householders. Jagan asked for the list of enrolled insurance holders to be displayed in the village secretariats. He explained that under this scheme, the insurance amount for accidental death and total permanent disability for people aged between 18-50 years is Rs five lakh and for those between 51-70 years is Rs three lakh. He stated that, similarly, for natural death cases (18-50 years) Rs two lakh and for partial permanent disability in an accident case (18-70 years) Rs one and a half lakhs assistance will be provided.
Moved by the plight of poor families facing hardships due to the lack of insurance coverage, Jagan at the elections had promised to bring in an insurance coverage scheme. YSR Bima fulfils that promise, provides security for families in need and stands by them.
Deputy chief minister, Dharmana Krishnadas, ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Gummanuru Jayaram, chief secretary, Nilam Sawhney, and other officials along with bankers were present at the launch event.
