UP train mishap: Husband lights funeral pyre from stretcher
Bhopal: The walled city of Bhopal on Monday witnessed poignant scenes in which a survivor of Sunday’s train tragedy in Kanpur was seen joining the funeral procession of his wife and daughter, both killed in the mishap, in a stretcher and a mother bidding farewell to her 50-year-old-son who did not forget to inquire, like any other day, if she had her dinner before going to sleep in his coach in the ill-fated Indore-Patna Express.
A pall of gloom descended on Bhopal as bodies of the passengers recovered from the wreckage of Indore-Patna Exp that met with a deadly accident on Sunday morning, reached their homes for their last rites.
The heartrending sight of Satyendra Singh, 56, injured in the mishap, sporting vermilion on forehead of his wife Geeta, 50, for the last time and garlanding her and his daughter Ragini, 28 — both killed in the accident — and later joining their funeral procession on Monday moved one and all.
An ashen-faced Satyendra lit their funeral pyre from the stretcher. Mr Satyendra was travelling in the train along with his family to attend marriage function of one of his relatives in Kanpur.
