73 acres of Telangana state land grabbed, sold
Hyderabad: Yet another land scam has surfaced in Telangana state even before the Miyapur fraud comes to a conclusive end. A confidential report issued by former principal secretary S.K. Sinha, after an investigation, reveals that 73 acres of government land in Survey No. 52 in Turkayamjal village, Hayatnagar has been allegedly sold to a number of people. The current market price per acre in the interior of Turkayam-jal village is between Rs 2-3 crore, and doubles for sites close to the main road. This prime government property was divided into parcels and all of it has been sold off and the files pertaining to the transactions have mysteriously disappeared, the report said. When the then chief secretary Mr Sinha tried to examine the land documents, there was lack of cooperation from the concerned Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), who said the files were missing in some cases. A source told this newspaper, “A specific complaint pertaining to land falling in Survey No. 52/8, measuring 10 acres was illegally convert
ed and allocated to a developer Vijayasree Develo-pers (a private entity), and that blew the lid off the Turkayamjal scam. After the complaint was noticed, a task force headed by Mr Sinha was constituted in 2015 to verify it. During the investigation, there was lack of cooperation from the regional MRO and in some cases the mandal officer who stated that the files are missing.
Despite the insufficient resources, the investigation was completed in the alleged 10-acre scam which exposed the role of government officials. The task force “alerted the government about the missing files of the remaining 32 acres and the grabbers feeding on government land.”
