Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday sought to know from the state government why it had not sanctioned the post of director for medical education (DME), ever since the formation of Telangana state, and that too when Telangana Medical Education Service Rules stipulate sanction of the said post.
The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar, directed the chief secretary and the secretary of the state medical and health department to furnish information with regard to the creation of DME post by the next date of hearing.
The bench was dealing with a petition filed by A. Narendra Kumar, superintendent of Wanaparthy government hospital, who challenged the inaction of the authorities in not sanctioning the post and continuing with Ramesh Reddy as the in-charge director. According to the petitioner, the post has to be sanctioned and filled by way of promotions, under GO Rt. No. 699, dated 07.12.2021 issued by the respondent No.1 insofar as it pertains to the post of the respondent No.4 as the in-charge director of medical education. Ramesh Reddy was the then principal of Gandhi medical college. The petitioner challenged it on the ground that Ramesh Reddy was junior to many persons, who are eligible to hold the said post.
Narendra Kumar requested the court to consider his name as the in-charge director in place of Ramesh Reddy by suspending the GO. However, the court rejected his plea.
The court directed the authorities to consider the application submitted by Ramesh Reddy seeking voluntary retirement in accordance with law within four weeks.
