Gudageri cops go hi-tech, enter top 10 league
Hubballi: A rapport with local people through social media has helped Gudageri police station in Dharwad district emerge as one among the top ten police stations in the country.
It has secured fifth place in recognition of its discipline, maintaining law and order after survey conducted by the team from Union home ministry. It has managed to solve several cases within a short time by adopting high-tech methods including its WattsApp and Facebook by preventing the people to approach the station to lodge their complaints.
As many as 30 villages of Kundagol taluk and around two lakh population will come under the jurisdiction of Gudageri police station. Earlier, it functioned only as an outpost and turned into a full-fledged station more than a decade ago after increase of population and crime rate. It has solved more than hundred complaints including murder, cheating, and theft and missing cases though it has limited staff. The discipline among the police, well equipped building of the station and reduction in pendency of cases has helped it to get accolade from the Central government. The police have been also convening the meeting with the people and women organizations at regular intervals to rein in criminals. “All the staff of our police station will be available to serve the public round the clock and try to redress their grievances as early as possible. Many complainants hesitate to approach the police station to lodge the case. Therefore, we have created awareness among them to lodge complaint in our social media by as
suring that their identity will not be revealed", says Naveen Jakkali, sub-inspector of Gudageri police station.
These police officers recall several cases which were solved in quick time through the social media. A mentally retarded woman of Rattigeri village was missing along with her child and traced in Andhra Pradesh within a few days. They also managed to nab four people who had escaped to Mumbai in connection with murder case within a week.
