Jallikattu Ordinance: Protests spark SCS stir
Vijayawada: The protests pushing for Tamil Nadu’s Jallikattu Ordinance has sparked off the beginnings of an agitation for ‘Special Category’ Status for Andhra Pradesh.
Spurred by Tamil Nadu’s fight for a Jallikattu ordinance, here in this state, all the political parties (except the Telugu Desam and its ally BJP), are pressurising the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, to follow Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, to start a battle for ‘Special Category Status’ under his leadership.
This has now become the main subject of conversation and a rallying cry al over the state. The battle for the Jallikattu ordinance had a greater impact on Andhra Pradesh than any other state.
The Telugu Desam government had accepted the denial of Special Category Status by the Union Government, while the opposition parties are still fighting for it instead of SAM.
The only opposition party in the assembly fighting rigorously for Special Category Status by organising programmes like Yuvabheri and an exclusive programme, “Jai Andhra Pradesh” for SCS is YSRC.
Even Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is continuing his public meetings and war of tweets at his convenience. The remaining parties like the Congress, CPI, and CPM are raising their voices for granting SCS to Andhra Pradesh whenever the opportunity arises.
The unified front with which the Tamilians stood up for the Jallikattu ordinance inspired all the opposition parties and gave them a boost to raise their voices if needed for SCS.
YSRC leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy demanded that the Chief Minister N. Chandra-babu Naidu take a step forward and join with all opposition parties to insist on SCS for Andhra Pradesh, under the Chief Minister’s leadership.
Mr Karunakar Reddy said, they will start pressurizing the Union Government by making 25 MPs of the state resign their positions, for which they are ready, and questioned if the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was ready too.
Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan also reacted, saying SCS should be accomplished with inspiration from the Tamil Nadu Marina protest for Jallikattu.
Congress leader C Ramachandraiah demanded that the AP Chief Minister should be like Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneersel-vam and protest for SCS to the state.
CPI State Secretary Rama Krishna attacked the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, saying that both the “cowardly Naidus” had cheated the AP state by denying SCS and other related benefits.
He said that at least now the Chief Minister had to come forward to protest and demand SCS.
Pratyeka Hoda Samithi convener Chalasani Srinivas also reacted and said Telugu heroes should get inspired from Tamil heroes as they had supported their people, and commented that our Telugu heroes are looting crores of rupees instead of being concerned about the state.
