Power cuts on the rise in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Though the state government proposed to supply uninterrupted power the citizens are facing unauthorised power cuts due to breakdown and abnormal changes in demand and power supply.
According to reports, the city is facing power cuts day and night in various areas.
The power consumption is increasing gradually due to scorching heat. According to officials, now Vijayawada city and Krishna district are utilising an average of 14.3 million units per day during the present summer.
The power consumption is only 10.5 million units in a day during the normal days. But it increased due to scorching heat every day. Most of the people are utilising coolers and air-conditioners. The power supply quota for Krishna district has increased up to 14.9 million units per day.
Though the quota is officially more than consumption as per official records, the people in the city as well as various parts of Krishna district are facing power cuts. The unauthorised power cuts have become a common phenomenon during the past few days, said M. Venkateswara Rao of LIC Colony. He said that they are facing power cuts in night and day without prior information.
APSPDCL Vijayawada circle superintending engineer M. Vijaya Kumar said that power cuts are being implemented a few times in the city for operational purpose only. He said that there is problem for power supply.
He said that the power consumption touched an all-time high on Friday as the temparature sored. He said that the accurate power consumption record could be calculated on Saturday morning only.
