Andhra Pradesh police lets off Ravi Kiran
VIJAYAWADA: In a surprise move, the Tulluru police has let off Inturi Ravi Kiran by serving notices under 41A of CrPC instead of producing him in a court. The police followed the amended criminal procedure code, under which a person need not be produced in a court if the offence he committed does not amount to a minimum seven years’ jail term.
However the Guntur police has taken the matter to the YSRC by serving notices on the party’s social media cell in-charge Challa Madhusudan Reddy under CrPC-41A. He was asked to attend for questioning on April 25 in the case related to Inturi Ravi Kiran for posting allegedly obscene content on social media about the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.
Tensions prevailed at the office of the YSRC social media cell as the police arrived there to serve notices on Madhusadan Reddy. YSRC MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy and other leaders entered into an argument with the police. As high-ranking officials came to the office, everyone thought the police has come to conduct searches. Additional SP for Guntur rural Y.T. Naidu, additional SP for Guntur urban J. Bhaskar Rao and Tulluru inspector U. Sudhakar Rao were the cops who went to the YSRC social media cell.
However, the police gave a clarification that they have come to serve notices on Madhusudan Reddy. The YSRC leaders questioned as to why the police did not take any action on TD leaders when derogatory postings were made on Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family members. Y.T. Naidu has clarified that they were acting on a complaint filed by the Assembly secretary K. Satyanarayana.
The notice issued to Madhusudan Reddy stated that during the questioning of Inturi Ravikiran it was learnt that Challa Madhusudan Reddy was the in-charge of the YSRC social media cell and he was paying a salary of Rs 25,000 per month to Ravi Kiran. He was asked to attend for questioning on April 25.
Political Punch is mine: Ravi
The administrator of Political Punch Facebook page, Inturi Ravikiran, has alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government is after him on a witch-hunt by alleging he had posted derogatory contents on the social media site, tarnishing the image of the legislative council. Ravikiran told Deccan Chronicle that the alleged post was deleted two months ago from Political Punch after netizens felt it was in bad taste. “The posts on minister Nara Lokesh led to my arrest,” he alleged, and added that this was being covered up under the accusations that he had insulted the legislative council.
He said he has been working as a freelance web designer in the YSRC’s social media cell. “I would even work for the TD if they pay me. However, my work for the YSRC social media cell has nothing to do with the postings I have made on Political Punch,” he said. “I have been running the Political Punch facebook page for the last two and half years, whereas I have started working with the YSRC social media cell for the past year and a half,” Mr Ravikiran claimed.
The postings made on the Political Punch page are purely my personal opinions and YSRC party is not concerned with that,” he claimed. On why he was being critical on the TD, Nara Lokesh and N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said, ”I have been an ardent fan of late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and I have my own political views. Naturally, I would point out the loopholes in the TD and the same was reflected in my postings. I have only posted the video clippings of what Nara Lokesh has said or of his slips of tongue while speaking, and they have been trending not only on facebook but on the entire social media.”
