Apex court to decide on MP Avinash Reddy's bail cancellation

Anantapur: A tense political situation gripped Kadapa and adjoining Andhra Pradesh districts ahead of a Supreme Court decision on a petition challenging the Telangana High Court order preventing MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy’s arrest till April 25 in the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case.

The judgment in the petition filed by Dr Narreddy Sunitha, Vivekananda’s daughter, is likely to be pronounced in the first hour on Monday.

The Supreme Court bench dealing with the case, upon receiving the petition, posted the hearing to Monday, informing that proceedings would start an hour in advance of court timings, asking the counsels of petitioners and respondents to be prepared for the schedule.

In the course of the case investigation, the case has been transferred from the police to the Central Bureau of Investigation, with the matter moving from a Kadapa court to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Supreme Court and then on to the Telangana High Court.

The Telangana High Court was overseeing the case after the Supreme Court directed for the constitution of a new probe team and directed the CBI to close the investigation by April 30.

Concerning the arrest immunity to Avinash Reddy by the Telangana HC, the Supreme Court suspended the decision and held it till Monday.

The Supreme Court order on Monday will also pave the way for the CBI to complete the final stages of its investigation.
