Youth From Pak Crosses Borders for Love but Caught in Arms of Law

Kurnool: A wrong call connected a couple from Nandyal and Pakistan. The man crossed the borders and spent more than ten years here, but finally ended up in the arms of law.

Police explained the sequence of events thus: Shaik Daulat Bi, a resident of Gadivemula in Nandyal district, lost her husband and was taking care of her child by staying with her parents. In 2010, she received a ‘wrong call’ from Gulzar Khan, a painter from Punjab in Pakistan while he was working in Saudi Arabia.

After some time, Gulzar Khan managed to illegally enter India to live with Daulat Bi. The two got married and lived together for ten years, raising four children.

Gulzar Khan was arrested at the airport a couple of years ago when cops found that he entered the country without any permission or travel documents. He was sent to jail, but was released for some time due to the Covid pandemic. He was re-arrested in 2022.

Since then, Daulat Bi has been seeking the release of her husband by approaching the court.

On the orders of the Telangana high court, Gulzar Khan was released from Cherlapally prison on Thursday after a remand of 18 months. He has been asked to appear before a court in Hyderabad on July 27.

Police say he managed to live along with the woman and her family members and even obtained an Aadhar card and a passport from the government.

Gadivemula sub-inspector Venkata Subbaiah clarified that no case has been registered at their police station level against Gulzar Khan. Gulzar Khan was temporarily released, but he will need to provide evidence to support the claims he had made while obtaining documents like passport and Aadhar card.

The immigration authorities booked a case against him, the SI said.
