Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the state's first Naxal surrender and rehabilitation policy.
The policy was framed after studying the Naxal surrender and rehabilitation of policies of Maoist-affected states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, state medical education minister Visvas Sarang said while briefing the reporters here on the decisions taken by the state cabinet.
Under the policy, the surrendered Naxals will get Rs five lakh or money equivalent to reward on their arrest, whichever is higher. If they are unmarried, they will be given Rs 50,000 each for the wedding.
They will also be given Rs 1.5 lakh each to build their house.
If a Naxal surrenders with a weapon, he or she will be given an additional incentive ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000.
They will also be eligible to get Rs 1.5 lakh for professional training to start their business.
The surrendered Maoists will be covered under Ayusman Bharat Scheme and food security scheme.
The next kin of the civilians slain by Naxals will be eligible to get a compensation of Rs five lakh each while the security personnel killed in anti-Maoist operations will get a compensation of Rs 20 lakh.
The surrendered Maoist who helps in elimination of a Naxal will be recommended for the post of constable in the police department.
Three districts in Madhya Pradesh, Dindori, Mandla and Balaghat have been affected by Leftwing extremism.
Maoists’ Bistar dalam is active in Naxal-infested areas in the three districts.
According to the police, there are hardly any native Naxal in the three Maoist-infested districts in the state.
Maoists from the neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra have been sent to Madhya Pradesh by the Naxal leadership to create their bases in these areas.
Total eight Maoists have been killed in Madhya Pradesh in the last three years.
