TSSP Guard Commander Dies After Service Weapon Misfires

The barrack in which 28 TSSP constables were asleep at that time was completely dark

Hyderabad: A 29-year-old Telangana State Special Police (TSSP) guard commander Bhupati Srikanth attached to Kabutarkhana outpost (OP) died three hours after his 9 mm Carbon Shotgun misfired around 3.25 am when he was sleeping on Wednesday.

According to Hussainialam police, Srikanth suffered a bullet injury in his head. He was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital where he succumbed at 6.41 am police reports said.

“I was upstairs when I heard the sound of a gunfire. The barrack in which 28 TSSP constables were asleep at that time was completely dark,” Venu, a TSSP police constable, said.

According to the complainant Maratha Sai Krishna, a TSSP police constable, when he was signing the entry book, Srikanth was sleeping on his bed with his service weapon lying aside, reliable police sources disclosed.

Hearing to the sound of gunfire , constables rushed to the room and forced open the closed door. They found Srikanth lying in a pool of blood with his service weapon beside him, police sources disclosed.

Later the complainant Krishna, alerted Hussainialam police inspector. However police maintained that Srikanth always used to latch the door from inside when he slept.

K. Swami the investigation officer (IO) confirmed that Srikanth had forgotten to lock the safety button of his weapon.

Srikanth was preparing for his Group- 2 examination, Bhupati Madhav, his father said adding, “Last night I spoke to him around 9.35 pm.”

Srikanth was the only son of Mahadavaiah and Bhupati Vijayakakshmi. His younger sister is pursuing her graduation.

Clues teams were pressed into action and the victim's loaded weapon has been sent to FSL for examination, police sources disclosed.

Police registered a case under suspicious death in crime number 227 of 2023 and shifted the body to OGH for post-mortem.
