Cops make 1st arrest for selling e-cigarettes in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: After E-cigarettes were banned on Wednesday by the central government, the Hyderabad task force team arrested a 45-year-old businessman who was selling e-cigarettes illegally and seized e-cigarette machines and liquid flavouring bottles in his possession.
This form of inhaling tobacco was banned by ordinance and will be converted into a bill in the next parliament session, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had stated at a press conference on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Syed Noor Arif Ali, who owned Gulnar's Perfumes at Shop No.13 in Mozamzahi Market.
Acting on a tip-off, the task force team raided the shop in Mozamzahi Market, Abids, on Saturday late night and found illegal marketing and sale of noxious tobacco products, the banned electronic cigarettes or Electronic Nicotine Delivery System, containing propylene, glycol, glycerine, water, nicotine and flavourings, with no manufacturing dates. The team seized 35 electronic cigarette machines and 68 liquid flavour bottles and one Samsung phone. He will be charged under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.
