OOTY: Few defamatory posts and libel in social media against the Nilgiris Collector and the district administration here have created a flutter, forcing Ms. J. Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris, to register a complaint with the police to rein in the offenders.
Two defamatory and malicious postings in the social media, obviously meant to malign the reputation of the collector, has been outlandish and had not gone well with the district administration as well as the general public here. While the one related to granting of building permission to a private school, the other was about a religious issue.
Though it was clarified that the permission for construction at a private school was issued way back in 2013, some culprits in their social media postings have now deliberately linked the granting of building permit to the present district administration, charging it with irregularity.
Ms. Divya, the tough Collector and an ace administrator, has decided to bring the culprits to book and ensure discipline in the social media postings in the hill district.
The local DSP, Mr. Saravanan said that based on her complaint the police have registered a case under four sections to book the offenders and efforts are on to nab them. Though the cops maintained that they are analysing the posts, which was forwarded by different groups and private persons in social media, sources said that the cops are investigating various angles, whether it was the handiwork of those who were affected by the recent eviction drive in the hills or those hit in the elephant corridor issue.
