Visakhapatnam: As the Vizag Police Commissionerate has been raised to the rank of Additional DG, commissioner of police Ravishankar Ayyannar has sought creation of a few more posts for effective policing.
Chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy would shift his camp office to Visakhapatnam on Dussehra day. In view of this, the authorities have started an exercise to increase the city infrastructure mainly relating to law and order and traffic.
CP Ayyannar stated at his first press conference here, “ I have placed a request for a joint CP and some more posts. We are hopeful that the CM will look into this plea.”
Since 1983, the city police commissionerate has been under the protection of an IG-level officer. After the arrival of Ayyannar, the Visakha City Police Commissionerate will be raised to the rank of Additional DG.
The district police system started in the city on 28 Jan 1861. In 1983, the city police commissionerate was established and the Visakha Urban area brought under it. After that, the Visakha metro region development authority was formed and the entire area was brought under the Visakha police commissionerate.
Until the recent re-distribution of districts, the jurisdiction of the Visakha police commissionerate has been widened.
Recently, the government decided to increase the jurisdiction of the Visakha urban police commissionerate, which has a population of over 20 lakhs, to the level of additional director general of police.
