Op Canoly Canal to be complete by Jan 1
Kozhikode: The operation to revive the Canoly Canal will be completed by January 1, according to the city corporation and district administration.
They will begin the countdown on the post-flood flood campaign for restoring the 11.5-km waterbody connecting the Kallayi River with Elathur on November 1.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran told a meeting held at the council chamber that he had asked the Center for Water Resource and Development Management (CWRDM) to test the water quality every two weeks.
Watchman tower and cameras will be installed as part of the project near the canal.
According to the officials, the primary task for the completion of the project is to take back the encroached land, close to 25 acres, along the Kallayi River and the Canoly canal.
"There will be stringent steps on this in the coming days," said district collector U.V. Jose.
Corporation health officer Dr R.S. Gopakumar, health standing committee chairman K.V. Baburaj, assistant executive engineer K.K. Sathyan, canal irrigation assistant executive engineer K. Ranjith and other CWRDM officials and corporation officials were part of the meeting held here.
