Ooty: Tribals appeal for eco-tourism

There need not be any harsh treatment to Thengumarahada in the name of forest conservation,\" he advocated.

Ooty: K.M. Alwas, secretary of the Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association, said that there are about 350 tribal families residing in Thengumarahada, Allimoyar and Kallampalayam hamlets in the Thengumarahada belt. Government, under the tribal rights act (TRA), should construct a bridge and lay a good road in the wooded zone as the TRA can supersede forest acts, he pointed out.

He added that the Greens and forest department officials who enjoy every fruit of development and cyber era facilities, should be kind and give up their objection to the construction of a bridge and road to Thengumarahada.

"The whole of the Nilgiris is nestled amidst the jungles. When tourism is allowed in the core area of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, why not in Thengumarahada which is known for its wildlife wealth and nature? There need not be any harsh treatment to Thengumarahada in the name of forest conservation," he advocated.
