THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CBSE headquarters at Delhi will take steps to ensure that the girl student of St Thomas Central School, Mukkolakkal, who could not register for the plus one examinations, write the examinations after being expelled for hugging her male friend studying in the same school. CBSE official spokeswoman Ms Rama Sharma told Deccan Chronicle that the headquarters would have to first examine whether the school had submitted any formal request for allowing the student to write the examinations.
Any decision could be taken afterwards only. However, a final decision on the issue would be taken soon, said Ms Sharma. The girl studying standard XI was expelled along with her friend, a boy studying in standard XII, for hugging on July 21.The stand of the school was that she was not a student of St Thomas Central School. The school argued that she had studied for only a few days in the school and did not submit her TC from the previous school. The issue was that she could not apply for the plus one examination as the registration was held on August 31, after she was expelled.
Though the management of St. Thomas Central School in Thiruvananthapuram called the standard XII boy, it had expelled for a ‘prolonged hug’, and family for a discussion on January 3, no such move was extended to the girl, who is studying in standard XI. The school is also learnt to have taken a decision to write to the CBSE board asking them to allow the standard XII student to write the board examinations. The meeting of the managing committee of the Mar Thoma Church Education Society, which runs the school, is also learnt to have asked the authorities of the school to take a lenient stand towards the children. However, School Principal Sebastian T Joseph remained tightlipped saying that the matter was sub-judice.
