81 Kakatiya University Students Suspended for Ragging Activities
Warangal: Altogether 81 senior students of the three post-graduate departments — economics, commerce and zoology of the Kakatiya University (KU) — were suspended for ragging junior girl students, for a week. Authorities of the university asked the 81 erring seniors to vacate their hostels for allegedly indulging in ragging with the junior girl students in the name of introductory session here at Hanamkonda.
Moreover, officials also declared Christmas holidays from December 23 to December 31 and the hostels were vacated on December 22 order to prevent any untoward incident on the university campus.
It is noteworthy to mention that last year a junior doctor, Preethi, attached to Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), had died by suicide for being allegedly ragged by a senior student, Saif. The incident had created widespread uproar across the state and the police had later arrested the accused.
There are five blocks in Pasmakshi Hostel namely A, B, C, D and E, wherein around 1,800 girl students belonging to regular and self-finance courses are staying in the respective block.
All the eighty-one errant senior students have been pursuing courses in economics, commerce and zoology streams. For the time in the history of university, so many students were placed under suspension for indulging in ragging activities.
In the name of introduction, junior students were “harassed” by the seniors. Unable to withstand the “harassment, the juniors who were ragged brought the matter to the notice of the head of the department concerned who in turn informed the university authorities. After conducting an inquiry, the probe committee submitted its reports. Thereafter, the university authorities suspended 81 students from the campus.
