Madurai: Police resort to lathi-charge to disperse students
Madurai: The police resorted to mild-lathi-charge on Tuesday to disperse college students who protested against the state government for increasing bus fare in Tamil Nadu.
After the completion of class hours, the students first raised slogans against the government and then suddenly blocked the road leading to Thiruparankundram.
The police first advised the students to disperse from the place, but they refused to listen.
This forced the police to restore to lathi-charge to disperse them. The incident affected the vehicle movement nearly for an hour. The members of CPM also staged a protest near Periyar bus stand for the same issue.
They also attempted to block the vehicle which affected the traffic for half-an-hour.
Meanwhile, the government law college students also staged a protest demanding the government to withdraw their decision on bus price hike.
