Answering questions
Once reports are received, patient advocates reach out to users to gather all relevant case information including preferences and constraints. On receiving the expert’s response, a report is created that answers all questions asked by the patient in a language that is simple to understand.
Navya’s Online Expert Opinion Service has been used by over 26,000 patients in 67 countries.
This service proved fruitful for 10-year-old, Uday Nair (name changed), who complained of pain near the spine and recovered with the help of online expert opinion.
Uday complained about pain near spine (left lumbosacral spine) to his father. A similar pain on the same spot had occurred a year ago as well, but the doctors had not found anything abnormal in the X-rays. But, this time around they found a lump, which on observation for four months had increased in size. Uday complained of pain when he stood for a long time. Within a month, a radiating pain was experienced in his thigh and made it impossible for Uday to even stand for a few minutes.
Uday had to undergo several tests and scanning in the next few weeks after which the doctors decided to surgically remove the lump.
Surgery was done post his MRI report and the specimen of a lumbar lesion was sent for biopsy. The report suggested Wilms Tumor.
Accordingly, his treatment started in a cancer hospital in Bengaluru. Soon after the results of the pathological slides, block review at another nationally recognized laboratory was received. This report suggested the diagnosis of Biphasic Synovial Sarcoma. The physicians were uncertain on whether the cancerous tumor should be treated as Wilms Tumor or Synovial Sarcoma.
During his internet search, Uday's father came across Tata Memorial Centre Online - Navya Expert Opinion Service at www.navya.care, to get the advice of world-renowned experts, online; which became crucial and very essential in Uday’s case.
‘Not serious initially’
“At first, I was not serious about pursuing my son’s case with Navya, but talking to from Navya’s Patient Advocates on phone gave me confidence and I uploaded all the medical reports of Uday on Navya Care. I was expecting a simple report, but what I received was simply enormous. A detailed report on a step by step detailed treatment plan was given. The systematic hard work by Navya ensured an accurate and detailed expert opinion by the TMC experts, which was in line with the ongoing treatment. No wonder, I was totally relieved," said Uday’s father.
