KOTTAYAM: The MG University has not filled at least 70 vacancies, including that of university assistants and computer assistants, due to financial problems. The candidates in the PSC rank list have been waiting for appointments for a long time. Currently there are 20 vacancies for university assistants and by August, five will retire, according to the PSC rank holders. The university offices are functioning with less number of staff and the students are not getting proper services.
"The authorities cite financial problems and new appointments can be made only after a proper study of the situation," Mr N. Mahesh, president of the MG University employees union, told DC. According to university sources, 227 were appointed as university assistants and 81 as computer assistants from the new rank list. Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabu Thomas told DC that the university was planning to reduce its staff strength. He also promised to look into the vacancies.
