Serilingampally tops GHMC rank
Hyderabad: The Serilingampally division topped the GHMC self-assessment for February, followed by Secunderabad and Malkajgiri.
All GHMC circles are evaluated in terms of garbage segregation, transportation, hygiene, availability of toilets, streetlights and garbage not burnt in the open.
Malkajgiri and the heavily populated Charminar Circles 14 A and B got high rankings with 19 divisions faring miserably in the parameters.
The GHMC introduced the monthly self-assessment in January. all divisions are marked as part of Swachh Hyderabad. The participants include GHMC staff, non-government organisations, Swachh volunteers and representatives of residential and commercial associations.
GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said the idea was borrowed from the Centre’s Swachh Survekshan survey. The Union urban development ministry conducts an annual survey to rate metros based on various parameters.
“To keep the competition alive, we have introduced self-assessment,” Dr Reddy said.
The main parameters are availability of toilets, garbage collection and segregation and removal of vulnerable garbage points. The circles have been given a ranking format, against which officials from the division give marks. Another team will evaluate the marks, Dr Reddy said. Dr Reddy said the GHMC was looking at establishing a wing to check quality control similar to the one at the Centre.
