Telangana BJP demands apology from Rahul Gandhi for insulting Backward Classes
Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Friday joined the party chorus for an unqualified apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for “insulting Backward Classes” as he had maligned the Teli caste to which Prime Minister Narendra Modi belongs.” They were referring to comments that Rahul Gandhi had made four years ago for which he has since been convicted by a court in Surat and disqualified from Parliament.
BJP OBC Morcha president Dr K. Laxman and state party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar told reporters in New Delhi that insulting OBCs had become commonplace for Congress leaders. Dr Laxman said Rahul Gandhi’s comments were made as he was unable to digest Modi’s popularity among the masses.
“The Congress party’s protests over the Surat court decision also tantamount to insulting the judiciary. We demand that Rahul Gandhi accept the court verdict and tender an apology to the BCs. If not, the BJP will mount a nation-wide agitation by the OBCs in support of this demand,” Laxman said.
Sanjay said by saying that all those with surname ‘Modi’ were thieves, Rahul Gandhi had not only insulted the Prime Minister but also the OBC community. “Right from Indira Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders have been disrespecting the judiciary. When a court delivers a judgment, they are attributing motives to the judges, instead of honouring the judgment. This is nothing but insulting the judiciary,” he said.
