UGC finds just 3 Telangana colleges of potential excellence
Hyderabad: Only three colleges from Telangana found a place among the UGC’s Colleges of Potential Excellence.
The list features Vardhaman College of Engineering (Shamshabad). VNR Vignana Jyothi Engineering College (Bachupally) and Chaitanya Degree College, Warangal (Autonomous). Thirteen colleges from AP figure on the CPE list.
Most Telangana colleges are weak
The University Grants Commission released a list of 124 colleges from various states, eligible for a financial grant of Rs 1.5 crore over the next five years. The colleges selected under CPE are expected to strengthen their academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching, research and outreach programmes.
Agricultural, medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy colleges are not eligible for the scheme. According to sources, more than 60 colleges had applied from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for CPE status. UGC will be granting CPE and UPE status to colleges and universities with excellent track records every year.
