Karnataka High Court relief to Tahsildar in bribery case

The Mysuru court had sentenced Raghumurthy to four years in jail for accepting a bribe along with Rs 25,000 as fine.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday suspended the order of a lower court sentencing a tahsildar to jail for accepting bribe in 2011, while he was serving as Shirestedhar in Mysuru taluk office.

The Mysuru court had sentenced Raghumurthy to four years in jail for accepting a bribe along with Rs 25,000 as fine, failing which he has to undergo an additional jail term. When the sentence was announced he was serving as tahsildar in Ramanagara. Raghumurthy was caught red-handed while accepting '50,000 as bribe from complainant Muniraju, a resident of Ramnagara. Following the complaint, the sleuths had laid a trap and caught him accepting an installment of the bribe. Following the conviction, the tahsildar had approached the high court challenging the order of the lower court. The HC has also granted conditional bail to the officer.

HDK bail extended: A special court, here on Tuesday extended the interim bail granted to former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in connection with the Janthakal mining case, by a week till May 30. Earlier the court had granted interim bail by imposing conditions till May 24. It is alleged that Mr Kumaraswamy and the CM’s office had exerted pressure on IAS officer Ganga Ram Baderiya to renew mining lease to Janthakal Enterprises, flouting various norms.
