Visakhapatnam: Are you worried, wondering which college or branch you can get into or need to choose from after appearing for the monumental JEE (Advanced)?
To dispel all your doubts and confusion, you just need to click on to Facebook or Youtube, as IIT Kharagpur has taken an initiative by offering counselling to aspirants. The Facebook page is JEE Counselling Forum 2017-18. Over 2,000 students from IITs, NITs are members of the group who will respond to the questions and give suggestions. The group is being monitored by the Branding and Relations Cell of IIT Kharagpur. “We have gone through the same phase and pain, so we know the stress the aspirants will be going through and how timely counselling could be of great relief. It is common for students to get confused whether to go for a branch of a lesser choice in an institute of his higher preference or vice versa. Also, the question is whether they need to get a better college or they need to repeat, and much more. The students will respond to the questions only if they have right information about them. For instance, a student member from NITs will reply when it is related to NIT and so on,” said Mallina Yaswanth Chowdary, a student member of Branding and Relations Cell, IIT Kharagpur.
“IIT JEE counselling is the period after the JEE results are out, where you have to fill in your preferred colleges and branch and are then allotted these according to your rank. Earlier there was separate counselling for JEE Main and Advanced. However, from 2015, the government has merged both of these into a single ‘Joint Counselling’ procedure. A common preference form will be floated for all IITs, NITs and CFTIs. This form will be fairly easy to navigate. There will be ordered preferences in which you fill in your preferred branch at your preferred colleges. This form will be available for modification online for about 4-5 days. Then the IIT JEE counselling rounds begin,” he said.
The other thing is -Know Your Department— through YouTube, which is also an initiative by IIT Kharagpur. Vyom Shrivastava, the student coordinator of the project said, “We also received queries on the campus of IIT Kharagpur. The queries were related to the facilities inside the campus and the aesthetics. To address these, we launched a campus tour video for our potential juniors.” The video displayed the whole campus and the amenities inside it to make people more informed about the beautiful campus of IIT Kharagpur.
