Army jawans stopped people on SCB roads
Hyderabad: Morning walkers from Radhika Colony in West Marredpally were stopped by Army jawans at Wellington Road on Wednesday and told that civilians were not allowed to use the road before 7 am.
After a heated argument and as the civilian crowd swelled, the gate was opened after 30 minutes of confrontation.
The sudden curb imposed by the Army on Wednesday, despite written orders by the Ministry of Defence is surprising. Even when the night restriction (10 pm to 7 am) was in place, civilians, especially walkers who carried a valid identity card, were allowed through Gough and Wellington roads and Allahabad gate. It is now over two weeks since the restrictions have been relaxed and Wednesday was the first time the jawans restricted entry. The angry walkers who weren’t carrying any ID recorded their encounter with the Army on camera and when the same was produced before the Defence Public Relations office, the authorities denied that any instructions to limit civilian traffic before 7 am had been issued.
