Telangana: It's a NEET surprise for topper
Hyderabad: Telangana state topper Lakkimsetti Arnav Thrinath was surprised at his top rank in this year’s Neet. Thrinath, 17, a student of Sri Chaithanya Junior College, stood 12th nationwide, with a score of 685 out of 720 and 99.998440 percentile.
Mangani Deepika stood second in the state, and 24th overall. Second with 681 marks and 99.997523 percentile.
Mr Thrinath said, “I am very excited to top the state as I didn’t expect such a good rank. My aim is to focus on medical research. Research careers are not lucrative so I feel youngsters should focus more on research.’’
His advice to students: “Focus on the exams and don’t stress yourself.”
Ms Deepika is a student of the Sri Chaitanya Academy, Raman Bhavan Campus at Kukatpally Housing Board.
“I have always wanted to become a cardiologist. My inspiration is my grandmother, who was always ill and suffering with a heart ailment. I always wanted to treat her and this thought has made me want to take up medicine,” she said.
Last year she was declared ineligible for TS Eamcet as she was three months underage.
“Last year I was ranked 54th in Eamcet but now I am happy that I got ranked 24 in Neet. We were worried about whether we had to re-write Neet all the controversies and were very relieved when CBSE announced the results.”
The Neet syllabus was new to state students like her “but with the help of my parents, and the teachers’ hard work, I could achieve a good rank,” she said. Standing third in the state was Adusumalli Venkata Hemath with 680 marks (all India ranking is 30).
His father said it was a proud moment for the family.
Hemath wants to do his MD in general medicine; he has also applied for AIIMS.
