Ganesh pandals in Hyderabad shy away from insurance
Hyderabad: Though around one lakh Ganesh pandals are registered in the city, there are few takers for insurance. Every year, a few incidents of stampede and idol crash are reported in the city.
The insurance covers gold and silver ornaments, sets, procession, and personal accident for volunteers and devotees. The cover also pays for any damage to pandals, food poisoning. Mr Sohanlal Kadel , MD of Kadel Insurance, said, “The insurance policy is alive for 12 days or for a month. This is an event-based policy. The premium depends on the size of the pandal and the amount invested by organisers.”
However, none from the city have opted for an insurance cover, though the risk factor always lingers. In Mumbai, the total insurance cover is pegged at Rs 214 crore.
