HN Sathyanarayana Rao paid Rs 11 Lakh to group sans tender, says D Roopa

Ms Roopa maintained that it was a criminal waste of public money for training 25 staff over just two days.

Bengaluru: Trouble seems to be mounting for former Director General of Prisons H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao, who retired on July 31, with a fresh accusation against him of sanctioning Rs 11 lakh to a talent group for personality development and motivation classes for prison staff in violation of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act & Rules 1999.

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D. Roopa has claimed in her letter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau dated August 19 that Mr Rao paid about Rs 11 lakh to one Suresh, CEO of Vruksham Talent Group, for personality and motivation classes for prison officials.

Ms Roopa claimed, Mr Rao did it without a tender and in violation of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act & Rules 1999. “In one-year Rs 11 lakhs have been paid to the same private organisation for conducting personality development classes to prison staff. Rs 92,000 was paid per batch, which contained less than 25 students,” she wrote.

Ms Roopa maintained that it was a criminal waste of public money for training 25 staff over just two days.
