Hyderabad: Meet says CSR work is skewed
Hyderabad: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities are lopsided in the country and the backward districts are left out, due to location constraints said DGP, Road Safety, T. Krishna Prasad on Thursday. He was speaking at a conference on ‘Awareness Quotient — UN SDG Agenda’ by Jayanthi Sreejeevika Foundation in association with the United Nations Global Compact Network India at Trident.
He said, “Bihar, UP, Karnataka, HP, Odisha and Chhattisgarh account for more than 60 per cent of backward district concentration in India. However, these states account for only 15 per cent of projects and 15 per cent of total expenditure towards CSR.
Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka and AP account for more than 70 per cent of CSR expenditure with only 15 per cent backward district concentration.”
Mr Prasad said that if civil societies in the backward areas came forward, this issue could be addressed.
The conference was conducted to bring in the participation of the government, corporates, academics and individuals to discuss how all could integrate the aspects of business and strategies into CSR and the UN’s Sustainable Development and Society for responsible action.
