Bengaluru: With Yeshwanthpur railway station being selected redevelopment by the central railway board, the station is expected to soon undergo a makeover.

Railway officials claim the revamp of city’s second busiest station, which has an average daily footfall of one lakh, will be done in four months and it will have amenities akin to an airport.

A senior official of Bengaluru Railway Division told Deccan Chronicle, “According to the Station Redevelopment project the station is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 15 crore. In Phase-I the entry facing the Yeshwanthpur Metro station (Platform 6 entry) will be overhauled. This entry is intended to give the feel of an airport from the exterior.”

He added that the railways have received many complaints regarding Market entry side (Platform 1) of the station and it needs a facelift. The Railways will focus on it in the Phase-II of the project, he added.

Sources said the second entry has been given priority as it serves as an interface between Metro, National Highways and Railways and more passengers enter the station from this side.

The open parking space on this side will have different lanes for cabs to drop passengers, for autos, for other vehicles and for parking. The flooring on platform numbers two, three, four and five, will be relaid with rough granite. The station will also have tactile spaces to assist the visually impaired and selfie spots.
