Madhya Pradesh cops to probe lapses in ISI operative case

Balram was earlier also arrested on February 8, 2017 on charges of passing on sensitive information to his handlers in Pakistan and was out on bail.

Bhopal: Thursday’s arrest of Balram Singh, alleged operative of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan, in Satna in Madhya Pradesh has created a ripple in police headquarters.

Balram (28) was earlier also arrested on February 8, 2017 on charges of passing on sensitive information to his handlers in Pakistan and was out on bail. MP police on Friday began a probe to find out why a water tight case was not made against Balram that led him to secure bail in the court after he was arrested in February and why he was not kept under vigil by local police after being released on bail.

“We are studying the chargesheet filed against him in his first case to find out weaknesses in it that allowed him to get bail. It is a serious lapse”, a senior police officer dealing with the matter told this newspaper on Friday requesting not to be quoted.

Five people including Balram were on Thursday arrested from Satna district on charges of running a fake cross-border lottery racket allegedly sponsored by Pakistan’s ISI to raise funds for terrorists, following a tip off by anti terrorist squad of Uttar Pradesh police.
