Nirmal: IIIT students deplore prison-like conditions
NIRMAL: Students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology (RGUKT), Basar IIIT, in Mudhole mandal in Nirmal district, feel that the 300-acre institute has become like a jail and there is no freedom of any kind.
Students frequently attempt suicide, allegedly due to stress or harassment by university officials.
There are also complaints of poor quality food, neglected infrastructure and not being allowed out of the campus. Some 7,000 plus students study at Basar IIIT.
Students have tweeted to caretaker Minister K. T. Rama Rao, seeking his intervention to resolve their problems and have appealed to him to visit the institute since they are not being allowed to go out of campus without a pass and the authorities will not issue them a pass to meet him.
One of the students who appealed to Mr Rao is Ashruth Sunny. Student Meghana Reddy said there is absolutely no freedom for the students, no repairs have been done to the basic infrastructure even after repeated appeals to the concerned officials.
The food being served is the worst, she added.
