Hyderabad: Ambulances on emergency duty to get easy passage
Hyderabad: The traffic police will allow right of way to ambulances on emergency duty along the lines of the green channel for VIPs. On getting prior intimation of the proposed route of the VIP, the traffic police makes arrangements for their interruption-free movement.
It’s much more important that ambulances get this facility. A meeting held between EMRI-108 authorities and traffic police in this connection decided to impart training to the ambulance drivers so that they should be able to give relevant details to the traffic control room. They can report on the location of the patient, the likely route the ambulance would take to reach the hospital as well as the patient’s condition.
Doctors, road safety activists, traffic cops and other stake holders will prioritise the emergency cases as A, B and C, category cases, depending upon which green channel would be provided.
“All this needs more consultations, planning and training. It will take some time but we want to experiment with VIP Green Channel system for ambulances too,” deputy commissioner of police (traffic) A.V. Ranganath said.
Traffic cops admit that uninterrupted right of way may not be provided continuously as there will be no space left for other vehicles, but what can be done is giving green signal at junctions and providing right of way wherever possible, reducing the travel time and helping save lives.
