KSRTC set to sack staff who shun duty for long
Kochi: With trip cancellations reported from many depots due to crew shortage, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) management has decided to terminate those staff remaining absent from duty for 89 days or more on a stretch without having a genuine reason.
This after it has come to notice of the management several cases in which its staff take unauthorized leave and engage in other jobs, especially the empanelled employees.
“Those staff who remained unauthorized absent from duty for 89 days or more should mandatorily report before respective unit heads before 5 pm on December 1, the failing of which it will be construed that they are not interested to continue in service and will be terminated without any further order/notice,” a circular issued by Managing Director M.G. Rajamanickam said.
The circular further directs the unit heads to promptly report on the action taken by December 1 itself.
In Ernakulam alone, over 15 employees, most of them empanelled staff, would be affected by the decision. “Since the salary for empanelled staff is less, many would try for part-time or higher salaried jobs even while in service. If they succeed to get any, they remain absent without informing the heads. This results in service cancellations,” a senior officer said.
The strict measure comes nearly three weeks after the management restriction on employees availing leave and exchanging duties among themselves.
The staff can now avail medical leave for a period of maximum 15 days instead of the earlier 89 days.
