Balanagar may get 2-deck flyover

Firm claims that design would require just 10 per cent of properties that was proposed earlier.

Hyderabad: Uncertainty prevails over the design of the flyover from Balanagar crossroad to Narsapur crossroad, for which the foundation stone was laid nearly three months ago. Local traders are expressing reservations about parting with their land to widen the road for the six-lane flyover. Some of them have even moved court. To ensure work is not stalled, the government has filed a caveat petition.

The government had earmarked Rs 265 crore for land acquisition while construction cost was placed at Rs 104 crore for the one-kilometre flyover. Nearly 60 properties on either side of the road have to be acquired to widen the road to 200 feet for the construction of the flyover. The construction company, that bagged the project, has proposed a double-decker flyover design, which it felt would address land acquisition woes. The new design proposed would have one lower level flyover for one-side traffic and an upper level to allow traffic from the other side. This model will not require acquiring several properties on the either side of the main road.

The firm, according to officials, claimed that the new design would require just 10 per cent of properties that was proposed earlier. The government has asked HMDA to conduct a feasibility study for the new model and submit a report comparing both designs. Fatehnagar corporator Satish Goud asked locals to co-operate with the government for the construction of the flyover, which he said would solve the perennial traffic woes between Secunderabad-Kukatpally stretch via Balanagar. He said that the government’s rate was nearly Rs 40,000 per sq.yard and administration was ready to pay at least twice that rate as compensation.
