Visakhapatnam: The fourth cyclone of the year over Bay of Bengal is likely to make its landfall early next week, affecting Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal, private weather website Skymet stated on Thursday.
It said there have been early signs of a cyclonic circulation emerging over the Gulf of Thailand. “The Convective cloud cluster in that area has manifested this feature with indications of a flare-up over the next 24 hours.”
The low pressure would intensify into a depression by November 26 or the next day. It may evolve into a significant tropical storm by November 28 or November 29.
“The system may not cause severe rain in AP. We may have light to moderate rain from November 27 till the cyclone moves towards Bangladesh,’’ said IMD director S. Stella from Amaravati.
This circulation is likely to move across the Malay Peninsula.
Geographical location, climatology and atmospheric conditions are boosting the chances of potential storms over the Bay of Bengal. “Weather disturbance entering the Andaman Sea from the far east at this time of the year is more promising for cyclogenesis,” Skymet said.
Storms originating over the South Andaman Sea are obsessed with long sea travel. The chances of growing severity and the size become synonymous. These are termed potentially dangerous. Also, the recurving track of the storms subject the entire coastline from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh at risk of being soft targets.
This likely storm will be named 'Michaung', pronounced as 'Migjaum', by Myanmar.
