DVAC raids at two former VCs' residences

Chennai: In parallel investigations, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted raids at 13 places associated with M.Rajaram, former vice-chancellor, Anna University, and P.Vanangamudi, former vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University in connection with corruption cases.

In a press release on Saturday, the DVAC said it has registered case against Mr Rajaram and 6 others for allegations of corruption in the recruitment of teaching faculties of Anna University during his tenure as VC between 2013-16.

“DVAC has conducted searches at seven places in Chennai and Theni, seizing 65 property documents worth about Rs 20 crore during the searches. The case is under investigation,” it said.

Further, a case was registered by DVAC to probe the allegations against Vanangamudi and five others based on a preliminary inquiry. The allegations were that Vanangamudi has entered into conspiracy with other accused, floated and violated procedure in admissions under 15 per cent NRI quota during his tenure as VC of Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University.

“A massive search was organised at six locations in and around Chennai and 74 documents related to properties worth Rs.95 lakh were seized,” the release said.
