Kishan: BRS govt defaming centre over compensation for farmers
Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said that the Centre had allocated Rs 3,069.87 crore to the state from 2014 under the national and state disaster relief funds (NDRF, SDRF), but the BRS government was still claiming that it had received no money under the heads.
In the advanced technical era, the BRS government would not be able to hush up the reality over central funds, Kishan Reddy said.
He said it was unfortunate that farmers incurred huge loss due to recent untimely rains. The K. Chandrashekar Rao government had issued a memo stating that it would hand over compensation for crop damages under SDRF, he said.
Of this, the Centre sanction 75 per cent of its share, he said and dared BRS leaders acknowledge this in public.
For political reasons, Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao had discontinued Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Telangana but failed to introduce alternative scheme for crop insurance, he said. Because of this, farmers were unable to get compensation for crop damage, he said. If the BRS government would have implemented PMFBY, farmers get the compensation suitably, he said.
It is the responsibility of state government to declare compensation for crop damage, Kishan Reddy said. He said that Rs 608.06 crore SDRF was available and this money should be given to farmers.
