2 parks shut due to nalla work

These theme parks have been shut even before people got a chance to explore them.

Hyderabad: The two recreational parks of the HMDA, which are supposed to generate revenue, remain shut due to the delayed works of the Kukatpally nala diversion on Necklace Road. The compound wall of the spice and herbal gardens has been demolished as also the entrance to carry out the works. These theme parks have been shut even before people got a chance to explore them.

Hundreds of fitness enthusiasts, youths and senior citizens are missing out on bicycle rides on Necklace Road. A whole stretch of the road has been dug up for over a year to divert the nala. Hyderabad Bicycling Club chairman D.V. Manohar said, “There are heavy machines at the station. HBC members have to push their bikes on to the road and then cycle. The HBC has tied up with HMDA, which has permitted the members to cycle in Sanjeevaiah Park.”

“HBC has also tied up with UN Habitat and HMR to set up 100 bike stations all over the twin cities. This is the first time in the world that UN habitat is directly involved.” The spice and medicinal-cum-herbal garden is spread over 2.25 acres. Located opposite Sanjeeviah Park, it was constructed with a budget of Rs 1.5 crore. The garden needs Rs 50,000 a month for maintenance.

The diversion work was to be completed by February according to Sewerage Board officials. Minister K.T. Rama Rao had instructed officials to complete it as part of the 100-day programme, said an official of HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Wing.
