Goof-ups dent Telangana image

TRS leaders themselves feel that the state government has reacted rather late, allowing opposition parties to get the upper hand.

Hyderabad: The controversy over the Intermediate examination results has dented the image of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti government and given the Opposition a handy weapon with which to attack the government.

Opposition parties and student organisations have taken up the agitation. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has asked all District Congress Committee presidents to lead the protest dharnas on Thursday outside district collectorates across the state. He said that the gross failure of the TRS government to properly conduct the Inter exams has resulted in 18 students losing their lives.

He has directed all DCC presidents to demand the dismissal of the education minister. The BJP too held dharnas across the state on Wednesday. Several student organisations are involved in the agitation.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has often spoken about corruption in the Revenue and Municipal departments and has decided to bring new legislation to curb it. But several people on social media asked the Mr Rao to give priority to revamping the education department.

TRS leaders say that after 18 students committed suicide after hearing they has failed, the government must take some hard decisions on the functioning of the education department or else the student community and their parents will be very angry.

“No one asked the government to revamp the Revenue and Municipal departments. The government took this decision for the benefit of the people. But people are demanding a revamp of the Education department, particularly the Intermediate Board. If the government does not act on the demand of the public, naturally they will be angry with the government,” said a TRS leader. The decisions announced by the Chief Minister on Wednesday will bring only temporary relief; the government must solve the issue permanently, said a government official.
