Mysuru blast case: NIA chargesheets 3
Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (Hyderabad branch) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against three accused for their alleged involvement in the August 2016 Mysuru court blast case. The accused – Nainar Abbas Ali alias Abbas Ali alias Library Abbas (A-1), M. Samsun Karim Raja alias Karim alias Abdul Karim (A-2) and S. Dawood Sulaiman alias Dawood Suleiman (A-5) – are alleged members of ‘Base Movement’, a newly formed terror outfit in South India.
They have been charged under Sections 16, 18, 18B, 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UA(P)A), section 120B read with 465, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sections 3, 4 and 5 of Explosives Substances Act, read with Section 23 of UA(P)A, Section 120B of the IPC read with Section 4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. The accused are from Tamil Nadu and had allegedly formed ‘Base Movement’ to “further the objectives of the proscribed global terror organisation al-Qaeda in South India,” stated the NIA official release.
On August 1, a low-intensity bomb had exploded in the toilets of the lower court on KRB Road, Chamrajpuram, Mysuru. The case (Crime No 63/2016) was originally investigated by the Mysuru police and the Internal Security Division of the state police, but was later handed over to the NIA, which had re-registered the case as RC-03/2016/NIA/HYD.
During the investigation, the NIA had arrested five people – Abbas Ali, Samsun Karim Raja (A-2), Mohammed Ayub (A-3), Samsudheen Karuva (A-4) and Dawood Sulaiman (A-5). While the investigation against A3 and A4 is continuing, the NIA has chargesheeted A1, A2 and 5.
According to the NIA, the bomb blast was carried out by the accused as part of a larger conspiracy by Base Movement to terrorise the judiciary. Similar bomb explosions had rocked court complexes in Kerala and AP last year. These cases are being investigated by the local police. “During investigation, the agency found that Abbas had launched Base Movement with the intention to further the objectives of al-Qaeda and he had recruited the other four accused to commit terrorist and anti-national activities,” said an official source. The accused had also sent threat letters to various jails, senior government functionaries, the Dinamalar office and the French Consulate in Bengaluru,” stated the NIA.
