Karnataka: Historic! Vishwesha Teertha hosts iftaar at Krishna Math
Udupi: In a historic move, Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt, who is known for his affiliation with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, on Saturday organised an “iftaar” party at the Udupi Krishna Math. This is the first time that such an event has been organised at the famed math.
Around 150 Muslims, who came for the iftaar, also offered ‘namaz' at the 'Anna Brahma' dining hall in the math. The Swamiji himself served dates to the Muslims, who ended Ramzan fasting at the hall.
Khateeb of Anjuman Mazjid and Minority Development Corporation chairperson M.A. Gafoor was among others who was at the math.“We need to ensure peace and harmony among communities. This iftaar party is an effort in achieving this," Swamiji told the gathering.
He also recollected the support and cooperation extended by the Muslim community during the Paryaya celebrations.Swamiji has had a good relationship with the Muslim community in Udupi. Three of his drives are Muslims, who have served him for several years.
“This is a significant gesture by the Swamiji. Allowing the other community into the math, organising the iftaar and also allowing us to offer namaz is very significant. It sends out a great message to the world, and it is a good beginning," Mr Gafoor said.
