Phase I design of Musi river front finalised
Hyderabad: The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDC) has finalised designs and landscapes to take up during Phase I to develop and beautify the stretch of the river from Puranapul to Chaderghat.
The work will begin at the end of August and is scheduled to be completed by March. The MRDC will construct berms, jogging and cycling tracks, walkways, foot over bridges, green spaces and illumination. It will also set up kiosks and offer boating.
This will be a pilot project to be replicated along the stretch of the river in the city. According to sources, the MRDC has finalised designs provided by national and international consultants who participated in a competition. The designs were submitted on June 11, and the MRDC has suggested a few changes. These changes will be firmed up at a meeting on Monday ahead of submission to the state government for final approval.
A senior MRDC official said the sample designs propose construction of several parks in the 430 acres of government land available. To protect the river from encroachments, the MRDC would construct retaining walls and flood protection walls in low lying areas.
The corporation will construct a rubber dam across the Musi besides developing roads on its banks. The official said that MRDC will set up 32 sewerage treatment plants (STPs) to minimise water contamination. It would also use Godavari and Krishna river water for further purification.
He said any further changes would be made after discussing with higher authorities and the government.
The MRDC official said the designs with final changes would reach them by July 6, after which they will be put in the public domain for suggestions. After finalising the designs, the budget estimates will be prepared and tenders to execute the project floated in August.
