VISAKHAPATNAM: The fourth-wave of Covid19 is emerging, it seems, as the number of positive cases in Visakhapatnam district is rising over the past few days.
The state health department said 23 cases were registered in the district on Thursday while 40 cases were reported in a span of 24 hours. The total cumulative case load now was 176.
If this trend continues, the cases may reach a peak in the third or fourth week of July, health officials warned.
"During the third wave, in the fourth week of December 2021, we saw an increase in the number of cases. Cases peaked in the state by the fourth week of January 2022. On January 24, the state recorded a weekly average of 12,107 cases, with a high of 14,502 cases in a single day. Now, the same situation seems to be repeating, especially in Vizag,” a health official told DC.
The highest daily Covid 19 caseload in Visakhapatnam was 2,117 in the fourth week of January last. For the first time, the single-day caseload crossed the 2,000-mark during the third wave. In the second wave, the highest caseload hit a peak of 2000 in the district in May 2021.
Now, there are no serious cases and this is a matter of relief.
In Visakhapatnam, less than 10 persons were admitted to hospitals for Covid-treatment and the remaining affected were being treated in home-isolation mode.
Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) resident medical officer Vijay Kumar said it was a matter of concern that the active, cumulative Covid19 positive cases in Vizag were now reaching the 200 mark.
"It is advisable to take precautions and avoid congestion, do wear a mask, sanitising and avoiding unnecessary travel plans," he said.
The symptoms and severity now are similar to those found in Omicron. There is fever, cold and cough. Tests are being done only for symptomatic cases.
