Congress accuses K.T. Rama Rao of rushing to Delhi to buy peace with BJP
Hyderabad: Pradesh Congress Committee president A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday accused IT minister K.T. Rama Rao of rushing to New Delhi to buy peace with the BJP central leadership in the wake of the income-tax department seizing incriminating evidence during its raids against top BRS leaders.
Revanth Reddy also questioned AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi’s silence over Union home minister Amit Shah’s threat to scrap Muslim reservation if voted to power in Telangana. “Both Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Owaisi are silent till date on Shah’s announcement. The MIM is supposed to be a party which stands for the rights of minorities,” he said adding that the real intent of the two leaders was to help BJP.
Revanth Reddy was addressing scores of BRS and BJP workers from Rajendranagar and Maheshwaram Assembly segments who joined Congress at his residence.
On Rama Rao’s sudden trip to the national capital, Revanth Reddy said the agenda of seeking funds for state project was only an excuse. “The I-T department seized incriminating evidence against BRS leaders. The media was managed and stopped from reporting the details of the assets found. Following this, KCR surrendered to Modi and sent his son,” he pointed out.
Revanth Reddy questioned the rationale behind leaving BRS MLC K. Kavitha, daughter of the Chief Minister, unscathed while arresting Aam Aadmi Party leaders though both were accused in the scam. “Kavitha is spared from arrest. KCR is not investigated despite allegations of corruption running into a lakh crores of rupees. Leaders should come out of their illusion that the Centre will act against KCR. The relation between BJP and BRS will not strap so easily,” he said.
He wondered why not a single BRS leader was arrested despite series of raids by the I-T department and the ED after so many raids on BRS leaders. “It was claimed that medical colleges belonging to BRS leaders were raided. What information have they secured? They said Kaleshwaram had become an ATM for KCR. Why wasn’t it probed? The Outer Ring Road was sold for a pittance,” Revanth Reddy said.
In a not-so-veiled message reaching out to BJP leaders like Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and Etala Rajendar who met the BJP top brass in Delhi on Sunday, he said, “Their repeated pleas to the BJP will be of no avail as the bond between the BJP and BRS is quite strong. Only the Congress can defeat the BRS. Let us come together and fight the BRS in the State and rid the state of the scourge of KCR. The state has come to the stage of selling even roads.”
Revanth Reddy said that Rao had promised to increase the reservation for minorities to 12 per cent during the 2014 polls. “But now he is silent when even the existing four per cent is in danger. The Congress gave four per cent reservation after the Sachar committee gave a report saying Muslims are worse off than Dalits in education and jobs. The Congress had given loans to Muslim and Christian minorities. Even small-scale industries are being denied loans now. When municipal elections happened applications were taken to sanction double bedroom houses. Why should you give votes to BRS? The Congress party will win the Rajendranagar polls this time for sure. We will stand by you don’t fall for false promises, he said.
