Rs 15 lakh NREGA funds diverted: AP tells Centre

The AP and Telangana HC Bench directed AP and Vizag collector to explain reasons behind the misappropriation.

Vijayawada: The state government has informed the Union government that during social audit conducted in Makavarapalem mandal in Visakhapatnam district, diversion of Rs 15,03,035, including Rs 4,01,825 of the forest department, was observed.

The Union government gave this clarification to Rajya Sabha over a question on misuse of NREGA funds, posed by YSRC MP V. Vijaysai Reddy, on Monday.

The MP asked if the ministry of rural development was aware of misappropriation of MGNREGA funds in Makavarapalem and Mandalam villages in Visakhapatnam district and that the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana High Court Bench directed the Andhra Pradesh government and Visakhapatnam collector to explain reasons behind the misappropriation of funds.

Rajya Sabha Member Mr. Vijaysai Reddy also asked as to whether delay in payments, not giving average days of employment to more than 50 per cent of job seekers, misappropriation of funds in the state have become the order of the day.

Giving reply to this question, the Union minister of state for rural development Ram Kripal Yadav has informed that the GoAP has communicated that during social audit conducted in Makavarapalem mandal of Visakhapatnam district, from February, 2017 to March 14, deviation of Rs 15,03,035 funds was observed.
