Vijayawada: Empty packets of Pulihora found in dustbin

Unsold prasadam packets were given to devotees, claims temple EO.

Vijayawada: Differences between the temple committee and officials of Durga Malleswara Swamy shrine are leading to new controversies and hurting the sentiments of the devotees. A few devotees, on Sunday night, found a huge quantity of Pulihora covers dumped into a dustbin and questioned about the misuse of temple money and holy offerings.

Hundreds of empty plastic covers of the prasadam were seen dumped at a dustbin on the temple premises late on Sundy night. Temple executive officer A. Suryakumari said that they have prepared excess quantity of prasadam considering the huge crowd visiting the temple in the last few weeks. But, on Sunday, only a few devotees visited the temple considering the new moon day sentiment.

She said that not a single packet of prasadam got wasted and that there was no truth in the news about wastage of 200 kg prasadam. Only 300 packs of pulihora with 150 gm each remained unsold at the prasadam counters and we have distributed that to devotees in the second floor, she added.

A sanitary worker dumped the empty covers in the dustbin and we will take legal action against the agency concerned, she said.

“A few members are intentionally trying to defame the temple by making baseless allegations on the temple management. Everyone should collectively work for the development of the temple and newly-formed committee should also help the temple management in this endeavour,” she said.

When contacted, the temple committee denied to comment on the issue and said they were working for the development of the temple and have no intention to defame anyone.
